We just had our first confirmed death from West Nile. So far, it's related to the military bases so they're spraying. yay.

Such a yucky thing. When it first appeared in nyc in the late 90s I got it & my cats did too. The cats almost died & I was sick as a dog.

I wish my suburb would get sprayed. I would rather have DEET on everything than get West Nile! Even my friend with chickens (FWC?) in the country wants the spraying down out where she lives (there's a small creek through their property).

I am a bit nervous, we (Call Ripley's Believe it or Not) have actually had such prolific monsoonal down pours this [past week that there is actually standing water in our ravines & flood basin areas! I think there has only been 1 year aside form this one that I can recall seeing standing water near where we live. I think I may have encountered 5 (and I am not underestimating) mosquitoes since moving here. I live in a very dry area of the valley. My damn pool pump died the other day so my pool water is now stagnant, crystal clear but stagnant, so I need to get a new pump by Mon to keep that from being a huge breeding source.
