I hate Sweetest Day and refuse to participate. I'm also not big on Valentines Day and think cards are the biggest waste of money ever.

I'm surprised that so many of you open presents on Christmas Day. My family has always opened them on Christmas Eve. My mom admits part of it is that the Germans were onto something: she never wanted to wake up at 4am to open gifts with us.

In Germany, there are 3 days of Christmas--the 24th, 25th, and 26th. The 24th is the big one of the three.

We always opened on Christmas eve. Only stocking presents were left to Christmas morning.

I told my BF I would break up with him if he ever got me anything for Sweetest Day. He happily obliged, which is good, because I wasn't kidding.

DD1 lives locally and her in-laws are big into holidays and want them to spend Thanksgiving & Christmas with them. DD2 lives out of state. I decided that I want Arbor Day!!!! We plant a tree in their Father's memory and celebrate Springtime.

That's a great idea, Luanne, for Arbor Day!!

I love Thanksgiving because it's one of the few big holidays that doesn't have a commercial component. You don't have to buy Thanksgiving gifts and put up Thanksgiving decorations and all of that!! It's just about being with family and eating good food! I wish they were all like that.

I get little frame ornaments from Hobby Lobby and put a family picture in one every year. I also plan to do it each year for every child. Eventually I hope to have a whole tree of them. Right now they reside on a mini tree on a shelf.

I'm trying to think of a creative way to save our Christmas cards each year (like the ones we are in as a family) so that we can hang them up and have years of them displayed each Christmas someday. The problem is, it's hard to figure out something that isn't huge but also keeps them safe!!

                            "Turkey Claus" on Thanksgiving.

Easter Egg hunt with clues to your next egg (and ultimately your basket) on Easter.

I love doing the Easter Egg hunt that way. With toddlers, I use pictures of where the next egg is hidden so they have to follow the trail of clues. With my 10yo, I use couplets. But I hate making up the rhyming verses. He loves it though.
