  • Chicken Coops

I'd like to design my own (for personal preferences/functionality) and build it. I'm pretty handy with tools.
Any suggestions, you who own chickens AND/OR DIY?

Stationary. We don't have enough land for tractor, sadly.

We do, however, have a larger side yard that is fenced in with 6' wooden fencing, has shade, and loads of grass.

I cleaned chicken coops for years when I was a kid and HATED it. If I was going to design one I would design it in such a way that the droppings removal was easier. I'm not sure what the answer would be. Something that was super easy to sweep or something that allowed the droppings through the floor into a tray or something similar.

Hm, I've been dreaming of tractors so that's what I've looked into. I'm on a Ravelry board for backyard chickens (don't ask!) and here are the links to plans, paid and free, that people there have found useful:

This is one feature I want, and a reason I am willing to self-design/build.
              I totally get it.
