Two truths and a lie

The ones from my grandmother were two single frames mounted on a piece of cardboard that was then inserted into the viewer. They really didn't add that much depth the image, but it is still fun to look at.

The ones like this from the 1800s were way cool. Kinda fancy wooden ones and the films were kept neatly in boxes. The view part was adjustable so you could really get a cool 3D perspective.

Most likely that's the Realist format, which is one that I use sometimes. The depth can be hard to see if the images aren't mounted properly, which is sometimes a problem with that format. My great uncle had some slides of my mother's family from 50+ years ago. They were stunning - almost like you reach out and touch them.

Bob, can we come over for a viewmaster party? We still have ours from childhood, and we had a projector too. My sister charged 10 cents per head to have a viewing party in her closet when we were little!

Haha - sounds good, but unfortunately those projectors suck because they only use one of the pairs so it's not 3D. There was a unit made in the 50s that did have true 3D using polarized lens just like theaters use for modern 3D movies. (Alas, I don't have one as they are rare and quite expensive.)

Randy Quaid is really random. If you'd said Billy Zabka, I would have understood.

Ah the generation gap, which is why it is possible that he shook hands with Ford. Viewmaster was a toy from the late 70's/early 80's that was a pair of stereographic lenses and a disk of images, typically from cartoons. The 2 images were brought together visually to create a 3d effect. But, prior to that , it was a form of photography from the 50's. We had lots of these pics of my great-grandmother, typically sitting around a chrome-edged dinette with a bunch of other women, sometime wearing skirts and brassieres with no shirts, smoking and drinking. She was hella fun!

Probably not, I'm sort of slow when it comes to pop culture. I was an early 80s baby so based on her description, I may have even played with one and just not known it's name.

Yep, I had one and T&S and I are the same age. Mine was red, with a little yellow handle I think . I can't remember what reels I had... I think most of them had cartoons on them.

The avatar? There was a user on another message board I frequent with a similar pic and it always made me laugh. I'm not quite sure why. I guess it's because it makes you appear to be a tough guy yet kind of pathetic at the same time.
