                        Natchitoches and Nacogdoches are cities in Louisiana and Texas respectively but sound nothing like I would have thought.

                        Nack-i-tish (short vowels - slur a bit for effect)

                        Nag-i-dough-ch (first two vowels short - again slur a bit for Southern effect)

                        At least in Florida, our Indian/Native American tribes spelled phonetically!!! Okefenokee, Tallahassee, Okeechobee.
