  • Help! Drop off meal ideas for young family

I need some ideas for meals that can be prepared ahead of time and dropped off for a young family with a two year old and a four year old. The Mom had major surgery and will be in rehab for 6 weeks. Any ideas for something that will be good for both the kids and the adults? Thanks.

Enchilada Casserole, Lasagna (or other baked pasta -- ziti, mac & cheese). . . .

I love takethemameal.com It is really great for coordinating meal drop offs. The same company(?) has a website called perfectpotluck.com for coordinating potluck meals too.

If you don't have the time to cook talk to your local Schwan's guy and they can suggest several meals that will be loved by the entire family. I've done this several times and its always a huge hit.

Maybe shephard's pie? (Casserole with corn and carrots and onions on the bottom, or other veggies; then a layer of ground beef; topped with mashed potatoes)

I like to drop off things that can be frozen or kept as leftovers, especially if they're getting multiple meals. A lot of people will bring casseroles, so sometimes I like to vary it too, with soups or salads. Crockpot fixings might be good too.
