  • Confession: I'm a nerd.

Obviously our SOs are all a bit dorky. I mean, you don't go to school/training for at least 7 years past your Bachelors for fun. I've been around here long enough to know that we're all nerdy, too. What do you "geek out" about?

Me: LOTR. If I had more free time (no kids or job), I would allow myself to become a Tolkien expert. We went to see the Hobbit tonight, and once again, the story, characters, emotion just blow my mind. I spent the whole movie tapping DH and sharing some LOTR reference (Look! There's Gimli's dad! Are they on Weathertop?).

I have a Master's degree in Literature, specifically Old and Middle English.

I also have a compost bin, where I raise black soldier fly larvae, which I feed to my pet chicken.

As seen in previous threads... Musicals. Put on a soundtrack and from the music I will tell you what musical it it from (while singing along to it).

I get excited for all Star Trek and X-men Movies. Currently when I have nothing to watch on TV, I go back on to Netflicks and watch episodes of DS9. Once I get through that whole show I will probably move on to Voyager.

I'm a math nerd and I love sci-fi. All I need is glasses and a pocket protector and I'm set (Actually I do wear glasses occasionally but they're super cute kate spade ones so I don't put those in the nerdy category). I also seriously love old Brit Coms (Are You Being Served, Vicar of Dibley, Keeping up Appearances, Red Dwarf).

I love reading about Tudor England. It makes me happy. DH and I also love watching Stargate and any superhero movie together.

Obsessed with world geography and international news. I loved the show WorldFocus and cried when it went off the air. I love flags and can identify all the flags of the world.

I LOVE PBS and would be perfectly happy of that's the only channel I got. My favorite show is still Sesame Street. I volunteer at PBS religiously. I was even runner up for volunteer of the year at my old PBS station! PBS has a really awesome station called World. I could sit and watch it for hours on end.

I'm a sucker for any documentary about the Middle East.
I'm just trying to make it out alive!

I have a BS in computer science and a PhD in a related field, so I'm pretty sure that solidifies my nerd status. Sometimes I write computer programs for fun, just to see if I can solve a certain problem, instead of having one of my programmers do it. The Big Bang Theory is dangerously close to my life - my colleagues think I'm just like Bernadette, except my voice isn't quite that obnoxious, and my husband is way cooler than Howard.

I'm also a big knitting geek - I get excited over really nice yarns, or trying out complicated new patterns.

I'm pretty sure I've become boring. I used to be geeky about some things but now I'm just too exhausted. Maybe once the kids are raised, I'll have time to get interesting again!
