  • How busy is the board..

I'm wondering how in the world I will ever get to 100 posts... On other boards I could do that in a few days. Here...it may take me a year. Are yall more talkative in the private forums or is this board just rather quiet in general? Still wanting to talk about marriage issues but don't really want to do it out here.

It is definitely busier in the private forums. We have all done the same thing. A few members hit 100 posts very quickly, but had to be reminded (gently) that the general nature of the posts need to be substantive.

Please be patient while we get to know you. Once you get into those forums, you will appreciate the additional layer of privacy. Cuz we really do let it all hang out. Some days it is like a girls night out with a few too many bottles of wine.

Thanks.. I think mine have been substantive.. If not, just let me know what I can tell you.. I'm just looking for answers...although if most of you are in training maybe you don't have them??? Sigh... We are nearly 17 years out of residency and I just don't know what to do..... Those of you that are dreaming of a happy life and easier life in private practice. Ha...Give it up. If you don't like your life now, you never will.

You're doing great! Keep an eye out for the Today thread; that one is pretty active, and those will help with the getting-to-know-you process. The Debate forum is also great if you've got a thick skin.

          Lonely wife,
Many of us are no longer in training. It really is more of a matter of privacy than lack of experience on our part.
As you know, training is a small world, and adding social media to that makes it even smaller.
Private access allows just a little bit more of a buffer: we've all been there, but I promise that you too will appreciate the extra protection once in.

I was just talking about "reality" settling in with my husband last night! Being out of training for 8 years now, you do hit a different kind of wall. Your life is what it is sometimes and you can't keep looking towards the future and changes as the thing that makes you smile. I think it's hard that the reality of post training life seems to hit around the same time as the reality middle age that often leads guys to a midlife crisis....it would be nice to have those one at a time!

EXACTLY. Now add to that my own midlife crisis/ the "change" and it makes for great fun around here. NOT

Soooo true. 5.5 years out of training and life is sucking big time. At least while in training you could always think about "the some day" to get you through. Now....this IS life in medicine and it kicking our ass far more than training ever did.
Finally - we are finished with training! Hello real world!!

Yep.. I think part of it is: he is responsible if the business office makes a mistake ( they made a huge mailing error that without my husband's quick action could have meant suits galore..) , if his pa makes a mistake, if the office staff makes a mistake. The buck stops there. He lives in fear and tries to micromanage every single aspect of the practice. His hair is now all white, he looks 40 years older than when we married,. It stinks.

DH has been an attending for 20 years, and even though we have had our fair share of seriously awful crap, life is still pretty good.

Please do stick around. We really would like to get to know you, and as others have said, we all have had to go through the 100 posts rule. It's for everyone's peace of mind, and you will appreciate the extra level of security.

Yes, the private boards are a little busier, but there is a definite ebb and flow. Some days (or weeks) are busier here than others around here. From what I remember of your other posts, they are substantive. You're on the right track. Just be patient. It's not personal and we all had to wait, too. Once you're beyond the curtain, you'll appreciate the privacy afforded to members.

Also, you always have the option of PMing members or posting something and then later deleting or editing it to keep some info private.
