Fourth year was easy for us, too. We had one baby, a cheap house, no money and lots of time together. We actually remodeled most of our house ourselves that year as well! No away rotations for him and all his residency interviews were an easy drive. One advantage of being in the crowded and over-saturated medical market of the northeast....

For us it was not fun. 2 Matches, and 3 months of away.

We are hoping it will be nice. 4 months off and only one potentially hard rotation. All are pass/fail. No aways, not worth it.

He is looking at prob 25-30+ interviews though (damn transitional year, what is the point?), but we are hoping 1/3 will be in our city or 2-4 hours away. And I plan to go along on 2-3 for fun. And get knocked up. At some point, not on the interview

In general, we expect a similar experience to Vgirl and ladymoreta. I hope!

Let's see, MS4... I started grad school, we got engaged, started planning a wedding, matched, moved. His actual schedule/rotations? I don't really remember anymore! I think he was off in December? I know we took a road trip to SC/GA over New Year's that year. I just know there wasn't any night float that year, lol!!

This. Lots of vacations wrapped under the guise of "interview trips". Lots of time off. Pure awesome.

This is so encouraging! DH has told me M4 should be relatively easy but neither of us really know for sure. I have no idea if he'll have away rotations but I know he'll have interviews as everyone else does. I look forward to more evenings spent together without sitting on the couch by myself waiting for him to emerge from the office just a few moments before bed time.

We had a baby in Jan of 4th year. It wasn't great for travel but he basically got 6 months of paternity leave which was DELIGHTFUL. I didn't have to pay for daycare until she was almost 6 months old.
