I love Target! It's a magical place... Even DS gets excited when we drive into the parking lot!

Not that you need to know this, but... If you get their debit card (it's just linked to your bank account, not a credit card or a new checking account), you get 5% off everything all the time *and* free shipping from their site. Just sayin'...

All kidding aside, one of my residency budgeting tips was to try to stretch out my trips to big box retailers for as long as humanly possible. I am not disciplined to sticking to a list so it really worked when I had to make the budget work. Those people are marketing mavens.

            Me too!!!!

The added thing in my case is that I also hate to unpack. This is bad bc I travel a lot...

When you're going into Target don't get a cart. It will severely limit the amount of items you can buy. Unless you are grocery shopping, then all bets are off, lol.

I always end up with a cart because my boys' combined weight exceeds 70lbs and neither can be trusted to just stay close and don't touch anything. . . . and those toddler sheets are in the back of the store. I've tried just bringing in the stroller but that double stroller has an awesomely huge basket underneath.

Last night, DrK told me that another doctor found the FIRST iPod he lost. (This is followed by an unnecessarily long story about how a patient deficated on the sofa in Dr. M's office -- DrK's former office, the sofa on which DrK used to nap from time to time -- and the iPod was discovered when moving the sofa.) He goes on to rant about how he cannot believe how many iPods he's lost and replaced this year - It's been at least three - and how much he's spent on said iPods. I figured this was a good time to confess to my Target sprees. DrK has insisted that I order the sheets on line and avoid Target at all costs. I'm grounded.

Me too...I've tried all of impulse buying tricks. I can't efficiently pack a suitcase if you had a gun to my head, but you should see how well my spacial reasoning improves when I'm trying to fit $80 worth of unnecessary items into an oddly-shaped basket. There is nothing that my desire to buy crap at target can't overcome.

I can understand the compulsive grocery shopping thing with my man too. I wonder if it has something to do with the lifestyle they come from where there is fresh produce and bread everyday on their street corner and people come by with carts of goods to sell to you on your balcony with the basket and string shopping? He often mentions to people from here that over there they don't have these big warehouse grocery stores where food is stored because most of the food comes from the fields daily.

RE: Target - I love Target too! I often go there to shop the holiday stuff when it comes out and then I go back after the holiday is over for the sale to see what I can afford. Last Christmas I hit all the after Christmas shopping like my Mom does and Target was my biggest purchase for ornaments, wrapping paper, decorations and serving items. We found a couple other good deals at some other places. I said to myself that next Christmas we'll be ready to truly celebrate and host another couple for the holiday if we want to. Our place isn't big enough for a larger party but we could have an intimate gathering of a few neighbors at least.

I can't add anymore or maintain a checkbook register. Math was my best subject and my brain has turned to mush since becoming a mom.

I hate bare feet. On the beach I wear shoes. i am compulsive about washing my feet and making my kids do the same.

I quit balancing my checkbook years ago. I check my transactions online, but I never do the addition and subtraction as long as the balance looks reasonable. I figure if it's off by a few cents, I wouldn't bother calling and dealing with customer service for it anyway. My parents would be horrified!
