Please verify for me ERAS is September 15th again this year right? And NRMP is September 1st? One is for the applications and the other is for the match right? I just want to be sure because I'm anxious about dh taking his last Step in August and when the scores will come in. He says not to worry because he verified it all already with the ECFMG, but I'd like reassurance. If the Step score comes in after the NRMP deadline, but before the ERAS deadline we're going to be alright for applications reaching programs and not being delayed right?

Does the day of the week matter for ERAS? It seems odd to me that September 15th is on a Sunday this year.

I don't think so; ERAS (rank list) submissions can't be done till sometime in Feb, I think; it takes more than 15 days for programs to offer interviews and to actually go on the interviews.

So we'll be ok then? I'm confused. Which date do we need to be ready by? He think it's September 15th but I'm thinking it's September 1st.

They say that if you take the Step it takes 3 Wednesday for the results to arrive. If it's taken on Monday or Tuesday the second week of August are they counting the Wednesday of that same week as the first Wednesday? If that's the case the results should be in by August 28th. If not then the results are in by Sept. 4th and at the very latest if it takes four weeks it will be Sept. 11th.

I told him it feels risky to me to delay taking the Step until after Ramadan. The late score could delay his applications which could delay him getting interviews. I told him I saw this happen to a few people that didn't match on the IMG forums when they were late getting a score for a Step. I wish he'd take it in July but nearly the entire month is the holy month of Ramadan.

Yes, we did 8 and I'm pretty sure Flynn did even more. It all sucks, regardless of length.

September 1st is the FIRST day you can put your apps list in (you'll want everything filled out BY then, but that's the day they sent apps to the programs and programs can start sending out interview invites). As I think has been discussed, it's generally not a game-changer to not have step2 scores in (step 1 needs to be there, but programs will interview without step2, though as an FMG, it would probably help to have it there, assuming he does well).

A classmate of DH's didn't fill out her apps till something like September 20th because she has some anxiety issues - we finally sat her down and made her hit send. She ended up matching at her first choice, and is loving it. It's generally recommended that you get it submitted ASAP, though. I'm not at all sure where anyone is getting a 9/15 date for anything, though it's entirely possible there's something FMG specific that I don't know about, I guess?

We are 2014 match as well! So ready to get the ball rolling on it! Though we are in for hell - applying to a competitive surgical specialty with back up gen. surg - so lots of interviews, basically two different apps etc. Anyone else do this? I know we are in for a crazy ride, but hopefully will be worth it in the end. I've already got our spreadsheets made - that took forever, but glad I got it out of the way early. From what I've read, the submission date for ERAS is Sept. 15., but I'm sure that will be confirmed once it becomes available to start entering info.

The 9/15 date is when everyone can submit ERAS. That's the electronic residency application service right? From what I understood from scrub-jay's posts last year they went off the 9/15 date instead of 9/1. That's why I'm confused and want to make sure what is the first date to be ready because it used to be September 1st.

It was 9/15 this year for both submitting and for programs to download it. That date is the "submit" button, you do have some time to put your application into the system and select programs before then.

Since DH is interested in doing research of course he is eyeing the programs that have a 2 year research commitment after residency and maybe why not consider a fellowship too. This is all after we get through his MD/PhD program. I've accepted the fact that he will be in training forever.

Does that mean we have until 9/15 to be all ready to submit, and that we won't be late even if we get everything else ready before then?

My DH's advice: figure out what is very important to you and then organize the programs. Feel free to PM me if your DH wants to talk to mine about the interview trail, etc although he is not MD/PhD so research wasn't his top priority. (ST- same goes for J if he has general questions)
