  • 17 Year Cicadas???? PLEASE GOD NO

I am just hearing about this. This is their year to hatch? I'm seeing words like "infestation" and "will hit you in the face" and "I once saw them inches deep in the street" and "you can't go outside". Oh god, please no. Do any of you have experience with this and if so, how bad is it? I just...I can't...

I think it was really bad 2 years ago here. All bugs, all kinds, all the time - especially the cicadas and June bugs.
    Ick ick ick.

This year, I'm ready - I have the hens.

Do they eat/destroy plants at all? All I've got by way of defense is a yellow lab who feels like it would be too much work to get out of his bed if I were being stabbed to death (just a hunch, but I feel this may be accurate).

I have a lime tree named Hector that I have pulled through the winter and if he dies...I swear to god.

I do, too! However, I'm a total wuss when it comes to bugs, so I can't think about what makes the noise or I start feeling itchy. I'm really hoping I'm too far north, or south, or anything and will be spared the invasion.

I definitely do not mind the sound, I do become terrified at the thought of millions of them flying around at all hours of the day/night and needing windshield wipers to battle them as I drive. Or getting tangled in my hair. I think I might be freaking myself out based off of stories my old boss told me about fish flies that came when she grew up in Michigan.

I think I read it is to be in the new jersey area. I know IN had it a few years back. We have them every summer here in the valley...but not billions all in a short time span!!! Crazy but facinating!

Ugh, I remember the 17-year cicadas from when I was in grade school. They were DISGUSTING.

I hate the way they will just fly straight into you.

And the ones we had would swarm when you had he lawnmower running (because I guess the sound is similar to their buzz) which of course was my chore every week. Ugh ugh ugh. Disgusting.

Lol...I can just picture the erratic mowing patterns from all of your bobbing& weaving, to stear clear of the cicadas!

OMG, the cicadas were here the summer we moved. My kids FREAKED about the swarms of cicadas. I'm someone who isn't usually bothered by creepy crawlies but all those dead carcasses were a bit unpleasant. ::

Ours were bad enough last year, O hope we don't get them again.

Yet another reason I flove living in the PNW. We don't have any creepy crawlies.

AHHHHHHHHH Yes, we had them here in Indiana several years ago, and I've been worried recently because I can't remember when it's coming again. I didn't see them inches deep in the streets, but it was awful. I couldn't drive with the windows down because every time I did they would fly into my car. It was terrible for me, but I am a huge bug hater.
