  • What the heck is going on at the Boston Marathon??

Is it terrorism or a gas line leak or what? The news coverage seems confused at this point. There was a voice in the background that said people are dead.

I just got five news alerts to my iPhone..each say "several people injured". I hope no one was killed...

Nobody seems to be speculating on a cause yet. Reports of two explosions and multiple injured.

Just read that several people have lost limbs, allegedly. So awful. It sounds bad to say but I hope it was a freak accident/error and not a purposeful act of terrorism.

It just happened minutes ago. I'm sure they're trying to figure out how to shut down the course & transport the injured (while maintaining any semblance of order).

What I have read says they shut down the race - so very sad for those that have worked for years to run it. By the looks of the pictures of where the explosion was I won't be surprised if it is more family/friends/volunteers then runners that are hurt. I knew 5 people running it today, they are all safe. So very very sad for everyone involved though.

Please pray. I have several friends running who based on their tracking would have been in the area +/- 2 minutes. They haven't checked in and it's chaos in Boston right now. I know 30+ people spectating in the city today.

Oh no...thinking of you and your friends. Please let us know when you know more about their whereabouts.

E - please send an update when you hear. Even for those who are okay physically, I can't fathom the absolute terror they must be experiencing. For so many of my marathoner friends, Boston is huge on their bucket list!

So it seems one of the girls I know has not checked in - she finished before the blast but hopefully didn't stick around the area. She is a resident wife and has young children.

This is so awful - and unfortunately, probably not just a coincidence or accident.

And both NBC and ABC are saying Boston Police's official word at this point is 2 dead, 23 injured.

I'm just sitting here crying. No word yet. I'm telling myself that they don't have phones. All their stuff would have been in the gear buses downtown so we may not hear for hours until they can get home and to phones. Trying to stay calm.

I ran Boston in 2010 with my DH with my father and close family friends in attendance, they were standing at the finish basically 20 feet from where that bomb went off. I can't believe this.
