Does anyone have a grind & brew coffee maker that they really like? Our old drip coffee maker could probably keep going for years, but the timer buttons have stopped working and the pot is getting old and disgusting, so I think it's time for an upgrade. I prefer to buy whole-bean coffee, but I want to take a step out of the process and get a coffee maker that does it all. I do NOT want a Keurig. Any recommendations?

Don't do it! I know there are espresso machines that do it and people complain about the grind quality and that they break down often. I believe in separating the processes. I also use a French press. Best coffee !

We also have a Bialetti and a French press and DH loves both of those, but I prefer my coffee a little weaker than that. Are the grind & brews really so bad? I'm lazy!

Also, I like having something with a timer that can make the coffee for me in the morning... dealing with coffee grinders and boiling water at 8 am is really not my thing.

I used to grind my own and make espresso on the stove every morning.

We now have a Black and Decker auto, but we still buy whole bean and grind it.

DH LOVE LOVE LOVEs his Keurig. We buy beans and grind and freeze a couple week's worth at a time, then he uses this with it: http://www.amazon.com/Ekobrew-Stainl...dp/B00859FH7O/

He is NOT a coffee snob, though; if you are, I wouldn't necessarily recommend his method.

I'm not a total snob, but I don't particularly like the selection available for Keurig and I like to brew multiple cups at a time. I usually drink 2-3 at my desk in the morning. And K-cups are kinda pricey, AND I'm trying to cut down on the work so using refillable k-cups is not for me. So Keurigs are definitely out.

I guess I'm just trying to make decent coffee easier, and it might be that what I want isn't really possible. I have heard that some of the grind & brews have a tendency to clog, but I was hoping maybe someone had some experience with a good one. I think what I need is a husband who grinds and sets up the coffee for me every night before bed so it's all fresh and hot when I wake up

Ah, see, in DH's world "must be freshly ground that morning" *is* coffee snob territory. The Keurig IS a lot easier; you can set it to turn on on a schedule, so he stumbles downstairs, grabs the thing of grounds out of the freezer, fills the filter cup, puts it in, presses a button, and 15 seconds later, coffee. Dump the grounds out of the filter cup, done with cleanup. It's definitely not going to save you time/effort on the grinding if it has to be done right before, though!

                Don't get a grind & brew. Just don't.

We are also lazy coffee snobs.

Both our grind and brews lasted about a year before it started clogging and flowing out all over the counter each morning. Boo hiss. I think you are doomed to grind in the pm with a timer setup or grind in the am and just stumble through. Or you could get the cheapest grind and brew and just know it has a limited lifespan.

I'm so disappointed to see this. I've had my eye on grind & brew machines for a while now.

I do like our burr grinder lots, in case you don't already have one of those.

We've had all sorts of fancy-shmancy coffee makers. My longest-lasting, best-tasting combo is my good ol' Black & Decker adjustable grinder and my Mr. Coffee maker. Those puppies have outlasted everything else.

I have a Jura Capresso. It makes the best coffee and it does everything. All I have to do is fill it with whole beans when it tells me to, as well as empty grounds every third day or so. It is an espresso machine, but I use it only for coffee. I have had it for nearly two years now and I have not had a single problem with it. It is expensive, but totally worth it, IMO.

Damn it. Well, I'll take your word(s) for it. Our old workhorse is also a Black & Decker, and it has lasted forEVER. Like I said, it's actually only the timer buttons and the pot that are going bad, it still makes coffee! Maybe I'll get another basic one and a bigger, better grinder so I can do a few days at a time. And maybe DH will start making the coffee again when he's on rotations. I'm just the kind of person who needs to actually smell the coffee before I get out of bed. I do wish there was a fancy do-it-all coffee maker that would actually work. JaneDoe, I'll look up the one you have.
