  • Tipping the mailcarrier

Do you do anything for your mailperson for the holidays? Tip, cookies, etc.? My parents never did when I was growing up, and I don't now, but when I told my boyfriend that he was mildly appalled (his father is a retired mailcarrier).

Since no one is home during the day (just like when I was a kid) I've never even seen my mailcarrier. Not to mention the fact that missing or damaged mail is par for the course in my neighborhood.

Anyway, do people still do this, or did it go out along with having your milk delivered and knowing your butcher's name?

I always get our maillady a little something. This year is a card and a $20 GC to Cracker Barrel. She has to walk up our hill and 2 sets of steps in the winter which can get quite icey in the winter to deliver what doesn't fit in my box across the street. Let me tell you she gets quite a workout during the holidays just from all my online shopping. Between her and my UPS guy I never have to leave my house to shop.

Yeah, we tip our guy. I am home during the day and I see him all the time. He is very friendly and we usually have a short chat about weather, the kids, etc. while he is delivering our mail. Our neighborhood is old and so most of the mailboxes are up at the house so he literally has to walk from house to house to deliver the mail. Anyhow, I think I usually give him $10 or $20.

Oh yeah, how do you guys feel about tipping the trash guys. I've been leaving chocolates for them, since there are 3 I wasn't sure about leaving them cash, also I was afraid if I left it at the curb it would get taken. Do you guys tip the trash guys?
