  • How are everyone's moving plans going?

As I sit with my binder and checklists I was just thinking of all the lovely spouses out there doing the same thing right now! How is everyone's packing and sorting going? I am currently waiting on hearing a closing date for the house we are buying in our new town. The appraisal is taking forever and honestly, I'm getting a tad worried!! The hospital is paying for our move so obviously we are having them pack for us too. I know. What luxury right?!!? I feel so odd about it as I have personally packed every single box and unpacked every single box in all of our moves (4 moves in total). Now I just have to make sure we have what we need on us to get us through the delivery of the truck (which isn't expected until the day the DH starts at his new job). Oh, and speaking of that, he STILL isn't credentialed yet because of a hold up on their end. Ahh....the fun the fun. Note the sarcasm. Hoping you all are moving ahead with your plans with great ease but feel free to share your struggles if you need to!! I know my local friends are having there own struggles.

The packers are here now! We were incredibly fortunate that I got a really nice moving allowance with my new job offer, so we hired a company to do the packing and move. Um, as I sit here on iMSN (I'm working, really). This is the second time I've gotten my job to pay for our move, which we initially made because of my husband, so I'm getting in the habit of not doing any work, which is probably bad.

We spent the month beforehand really getting rid of stuff we didn't need, and taking it to Goodwill or and our church's clothes mission - we filled 3-4 dish packs and 5-6 smaller boxes, I'm pretty sure. And we got rid of some furniture. My mom even said I inspired her to get rid of stuff, which coming from the queen of organization and non-clutter is impressive. It's a little stressful, since graduation was just last weekend and my husband has a lot of little things to finish up still (100+ IHI modules), and I'm not really planning to take any days off in between finishing up my current job remotely and starting my new job July 1. We closed on our house a few weeks ago, and hopefully all that construction will be done this weekend, then cleaners will get rid of the mess before our stuff shows up (fingers crossed).

We've had our new place since May 1st and half of our stuff is already moved. We're in pretty good shape. I've got a truck reserved and helpers at either end for the final move in three weeks. DW's credentials are finally in place. We still haven't rented our current house, but I'm not too concerned about that yet. Biggest issue is finances. We have a massive CC bill, insurance premiums, estimated taxes and two house payments this month. The money just isn't there so I've had to borrow. It also doesn't help that I can't put in as many hours for my consulting gig because I've been so busy with everything else.

Oooo...our credit card bill is also astronomical and is only going to get worse! DH doesn't get paid until July 18th and we are draining our account for the downpayment! I am happy to hear everyone is in good shape! Makes the transition so much easier.

We're moving a week from tomorrow, and I feel like we'll be ready, even though it doesn't really look that way. We didn't unpack a whole lot this year, and we've been packing nonessentials for a couple weeks, so most of the stuff that's out is stuff we use regularly. (We moved to a rent house last year when we moved for residency and just bought a house.) We'll do the big push next week to get everything else boxed up.

We racked up a lot of credit card debt and a loan at the end of residency, too. It sucks, but you'll get it paid off. At least that's what I'm telling myself... We've made a big dent in it, but the fact that it's not gone stresses me out.

We ended up having a few issues with our inventory yesterday, but I think we got it all resolved. My biggest issue was making sure that if anything important was written on the outside of the box (DVD player, computer monitor, etc. - these are cheaper ones that aren't as important to move ourselves, and we're moving the nice expensive ones on our own), that it was written on the signed inventory. I checked a couple and they matched up, but I thought my husband checked the other room, and apparently he didn't. So when I looked after the packers left and noticed a discrepancy (one box said DVD player + speakers, the inventory said totes), I got a little pissed. We called the company and explained it all, and got a comment added to our documentation so if the box shows up missing or not containing those items, I think we'll be covered. Long story short, check your written inventory sheet against both the contents of the boxes and what's written on the box, because the only thing that matters with missing items is what is written on the signed inventory.

I'm I the middle of moving, and feeling such a loss of this community. I can't believe I'm going to miss it here this much.
We are moving ourselves due to budget. Random FB friend tells me to use wardrobe boxes to pack my closets. HELLO! We are residency broke! I cant afford to BUY boxes, much less fancy boxes!

Hugs moonlight, big sympathetic hugs. I am bereft at the loss I will feel when I leave this community. My running buddy, my college friends, and my daughters' friends moms cried when I told them. This is going to be the long, drawn out goodbye. .

What a nightmare day 2 was! Driver came at around 2, because he had to drive a good way from his last pickup, but at least we expected that from his call the day before. The bad news? The amount of stuff we had was greatly underestimated by the company, and it wouldn't all fit on the truck. They came with truck #2, which was totally full, so they had to come back with a 3rd truck. So, half of our still will be delivered tomorrow, the other half in the next week. I did make sure that they kept separate inventories of what went on each truck. Also adding to the fun - our house is still a construction mess. They were supposed to be at least finished with the floors and all the sheetrock work before we moved in. Most of the sheetrock is done except the toilet room in the master bath, which isn't completely important. The tile in the kitchen and breakfast room mostly got grouted yesterday, but the two bathrooms aren't done at all. I guess we'll move some of our stuff into the house when it shows up tomorrow but keep it all in one area of the house until it's finished and cleaned, and we'll stay with my parents until we have a fully completed bathroom.

                    New construction? No. Remodel? Yes.

Yep, it's all remodel, and it's really not terrible. All the floors are in except some of the tile in the master bathroom, and the grout on the tile in the guest bathroom. The sheetrock is more repair stuff, not like we have exposed studs or anything. I just thought it would be done, because the contractor said it would be by Friday.

We're never moving again, seriously. I posted in the rant thread, but the second truck of our stuff was stolen. We spent today starting to figure out what was in those boxes - need to finish that in the next couple of days. At least the house is pretty much done!

Our moving day is Friday! DH is post call tomorrow, and his mom is coming over to keep an eye on the kids while we do the last big packing push. We've been taking boxes over since last week, and we've run our plates and glasses through the dishwasher already. I unpacked a lot of the pantry stuff, too, so we've got a good head start on having a working kitchen.
