Help me color my hair

I colored my hair by myself this morning and it ... turned out surprisingly okay! I took bits and pieces of everyone's advice and bought a box of Clairol's Nice 'n Easy in Dark Brown in the foam application.

The application wasn't as messy as I thought it would be (I think the foam helped with that), although (1) I have a few roots at the top of my head that didn't get dyed (I assume I just didn't apply as thoroughly as I should have), (2) I have a dark splotch of dye on my scalp just above my forehead (pretty hard to see, I think, bc of its location so it's not really bothering me), and (3) the coverage is not that good on the hair behind my ears bc I was afraid of getting too close to my ears!

Overall, though, I'm really happy with the results (especially considering I only spent $7.49 with a coupon ). The color is very close to my natural black/dark brown color and most of the grays are covered. Win!

Pick up some of the "Just For Men Mustache & Beard color" and use it to touch up the spots you missed and to touch up roots. It works great on the coarse grey hair and you only mix the amount you need and save the remainder for touch ups. The colors blend really well with the colors for women and it is cheaper!!!!

I want highlights now. I don't want to pay a fortune after I just paid for color. Can I go to Sally Beauty Supply and get stuff to do my own highlights? Is that asking for trouble? Is it something my mom or sister could do for me?

I'd be wary of doing my own highlights in hair that has already been processed.

I will color at home but not highlight. Your hair is dark VGirl and you could either end up with orangey (not enough time) or frying (left too long) hair. If you really want to try it, maybe do only a strip under your long hair so that if it looks bad, you can hide it?
Still, I say go the stylist route when you have dark hair.
