Awesome suggestion! We've discussed having me checking his email more often since I'm at home... I think we'll take care of that this weekend since we expect things to pick up even more soon.

So did the two of you (metroguy and you) schedule interviews mostly by email?

I'm not sure where to find a great online calendar that we can both access easily - any suggestions?

DrB luckily has a laid back rotation this month so he's had time to check his phone, but it's always on his mind. It's pretty much all he and his friends talk about.

I did them all by email. We used gmail calendar (you can share specific calendar in gmail so we did a special one for interviews we could both see).

Do not call a residency program on behalf of your spouse. Ever. Like the others did, just email the program from his/her account. They'll be none the wiser.

Oh yeah - I wouldn't even consider calling for him! Do people really do that? Yikes.

Thanks for the suggestions re: google calendar. I have one already and hadn't considered setting up a separate one. DUH!! Apparently my brain isn't functioning today.

i used her email account calendar. i setup her email account (gmail + school account) to (forward an email)/text me any email that contain 'interview', or 'schedule' or from amcs(?). this way, i can response in about 1 hr or less --usually in 10 minutes. it came in handy since it's first come first serve on interview slots. choice dates go fast. i would say they were fill within 3 hrs of email. many times, i couldn't get first choice picks. i'm not sure who was beating me to the punch--but i suspect certain email servers are faster than others. we switch over to gmail from school email because i thought the school email was too 'slow'. also, interview emails are sent in batches--so if you are not in the first batch, you're already behind.

also not sure if many people know this but scheduling interviews is semi art. i setup some 'throw away' interviews in the beginning of the yr. this is a great way to have a real practice interview and not worry too much. also i religious follow the website to see how many waves of interviews and what the dates given was. this way, i schedule interview dates that are not in conflict. of course, we ran into some conflict--and i had to tell a program we need to reschedule because something else has come up.. most programs understand-- i had to tell a community prog-- a university prog interview came up--so the interview date need to be change.

btw, it's probably best to assign one person to do the task (aka the non md). this way there's no conflict on who does what. i also setup the hotel rooms/bus tickets/etc. whatever was necessary to get the interview done. i think most programs offer mock interviews. i suggest the student take those.

I did most of the booking and scheduling too. By the end I was to tired of it.
                              Good luck everyone with interviews!

All of that was awesome! Thank you for the suggestions! I'm trying to get his outlook web access to forward me the emails as we "speak". No luck yet - but in the meantime, he gave me the password so I can keep checking it myself.

I enticed him by telling him I'd be the only secretary he ever has that he can enjoy "special benefits" with... perked him right up. haha
