  • pay as you go iphone

Alex has been wanting an iphone for a long time. His cell phone broke 6 months ago and he has had no phone since then. I have been looking into some deals that I found on Amazon and there are a couple of different options that are totally doable. Here's the problem: We use pay-as-you-go plans for the kids. DH is violently opposed to having them on our plan. It is non-negotiable (I have tried every argument). He firmly believes in using the pay-as-you-go system. I am clueless as to how I would set up an iphone like this. It sounds like the phones themselves are linked to specific carriers ... like verizon or AT &T and that you have to use the phone with that provider.

Have you ever heard of setting up an iphone on a pay-as-you-go plan? I hate to make the investment and then not be able to set it up. Any ideas on how to get started?

ETA: I checked AT & T GoPhone and they don't have the iphone listed.

I'm pretty sure you can do a pre-pay plan through Cricket and Virgin for the iPhone.

Ok so while you guys are at it...would you help me out too?? I have a 4G raze new in box that I'd like to activate for my 5th grader. I figured a pre pay/pay as you go would be ideal??! He is not a talker, diesnt get into texting isn't into social networking...but will gladly pour over Sports stats and sports sites and our FF league. I want him to be able to call us in case of emergencies, call his friends for info on forgotten HW assigments& to call his g-ma(they love talking Pacers, Colts& all things Manning)! LOL it's their thing. We are also starting to let all of them walk/scooter to school & I want him to have a phone. Anyway should I look for a package that is heavy on data while lighter on texting& talking minutes?
We have 5 phones on our Verizon Account (z has 1each for his PAs & 1for his secretary) that he pays w/his CC he has through his practice. My phone gets utilized as a back-up so it's on there too. We got lucky w/most of those because they are grandfathered.

Anyway based on what I mentioned about DS & any experience you may have what would be a good option for me to look into...I am just not savvy enough to figure this all out...

So ... I know next to nothing on this topic, but I wonder if you could go to the store and look at which pay-as-you-go plan offers the best unlimited texting/limited calling and then just call them and ask if you can sign up with your son's phone? I know ... I said I know nothing.
I'm pretty excited though. I got the virgin mobile iPhones before the prices go up Nov. 4th by 20% (supposedly). It's a little more than I planned on spending for each person, but I would rather pay for something that I know they want than junk that they don't want.
