I just went to Kohls to buy a pair of shoes. I usually buy my cheap shoes there. I don't spend more than $39 on their shoes. They just aren't worth more.

I was hoping for a pair of black slipons similar to the brown ones I'm wearing today. Coincidentally, my brown ones were on sale today ... the exact shoe I had on ... for $69! Holy crap...like I said, I never spend more than $39 there. I know I didnt spend close to 69 last fall when I got them.

I settled on a pair of black shoes that I paid $35 for with a 15% discount and $10 in Kohl's bucks. Basically, my kohl's bucks and discount are what brought me down. Last year, with the same discount, I would have paid less than 20.

What is up with Kohl's prices?

I've always thought the only way to get really good prices at Kohl's is when its on sale and you have coupons/bucks. They're non-sale prices aren't that great, IMO.

I'm just surprised by how much more expensive things seemed. I couldn't find shoes that were 'on sale' for less that $44. I had sticker shock. I wonder if prices will come down as the holiday approaches.

Keep an eye out on Brad's Deals. That website posts TONS of really great sales. HauteLook is a good one, too.

Many times, Kohls will raise prices and then have their "sale" be the old price, and then keep the higher price after the sale is over :/

I don't get the love for Kohls. I find their products to be below average quality but nearly as expensive as a regular department store. I do better at other retailers.

This. I do better at Steinmart or resale shops . . . but I'm probably willing to pay a little more than $39 for shoes if I'll wear them often and I don't buy shoes resale unless they are perfect/new condition.

I was talking to a friend a couple days ago and she said the exact same thing about the prices at Kohl's. I think this was a off week for Kohl's sales.

I don't know - I think you have to hit things right. I went on Thursday (or was it Tuesday?) and got R more then $150 in toys for his birthday for less then $65 with a sale, coupon and Kohl's cash.

I don't get it either. Kohl's jacks up their prices on low quality products and then offers good sales that just take things down closer to their actual value. It's all about giving shoppers the rush of a sale without losing money. I prefer dsw, zappos or 6pm for shoes. Or Nordstrom Rack - LOVE.

I like Kohls for name brands, like Carter's, Nike, Levi's, etc. They often have the best prices on those, especially if you can catch them on sale or use a coupon. I agree that their store brands are horrible, though. If they look good after a couple washings, I'm shocked. As far as the shoe prices go, I imagine they're raising them so they can put them on "deep" sale after Thanksgiving.

Kohls is like Hobby Lobby...their regular prices are just ridiculous and the every other week 50% off sale brings items to a more realistic price. Kohls has cute girls jewelry, but I only buy it when it's deeply discounted. Otherwise, the regular price for a silver necklace is like 75 dollars. They've lost their bloody minds if they think anyone will pay that.

PS - check TJ Maxx for shoes. I buy Born shoes there for 40-50 dollars and they are awesome.

I usually do TJ Maxx for shoes too. I don't mind spending more for better quality.

I can rarely find good shoes at TJMaxx in my size. But I am a 9.5/10. I actually think Ross has better dresses and shoes, but prefer TJMaxx for everything else
