  • Medical volunteer programs for students?

I'm tapping into the collective iMSN wisdom please share any programs you know about that offer volunteer (summer and/or two week holida/spring break visits) for high school students. TIA!

I know in FL they have a volunteer diabetes camp...DH did it in college but I think it might be open to high schoolers as well. They basically help young diabetics learn t manage blood sugar, injections, etc.

What about looking at short term medical missions... They will often let college students and sometimes high school students be involved in the process. Hubby has let them watch a procedure, scrub instruments, etc. Just a thought.

The hospital in NC where DH did residency had a program set up for HS students that wanted to volunteer in the summer. They had to be approved by the HS, Hospital, and the department they wanted to volunteer.

I'm sure you're looking for something in the US since it's for a high school student but this company has medical volunteer programs abroad http://www.amerispan.com
Most have a language component too.
I used to work there and can tell you a lot about them if you want more info.
