I want a single gift under my tree that is for me. This is one part of single parenting that really blows.

HoW, that's one part of being a divorced kid that really blows too. Once I realized around 13 that no one bought a gift for my mom except me, I felt super stressed by it (that's just my personality though). I put a lot of pressure in myself to find many great gifts for her every year.

Yeah, it sucks for C because he wants to get gifts, but needs an adult to help him.

Awww, that's super sweet of you and pretty cognizant for a teen.

We are slacking on Christmas this year. No tree, no decor, and limited gifts. I usually love it, but still having the house on the market while not living there is cutting down on my festive ways.

Yes, that is one thing I'm doing this season. I've motivated our SS class to help a single mom with two daughters. One daughter has had major surgery which has caused her to miss a lot of work. We've been helpling to stay with the daughter. Our class I getting them gifts food and paid her rent for this month. I made my assignment to ask the daughters what their mom wants for Christmas and then help them purchase something from them and also get a gift from our class.

Sorry about your situation. So are you in residency?

That is a wonderful thing to do.

Um, my situation is a wee bit complicated. I put my ex through medical school and we divorced during residency (although it had zero to do with residency specifically). Right now he is trying to get a different residency (again, a complicated story). So, I don't really fall into a specific bucket. Add to it that I am the office manager for a surgeon and my life is all sorts of tangled up with medicine.

It's kinda like a fungal infection or herpes or glitter, you can't ever really get rid of medicine... *sigh*

Could your sister or parents help him? He's such a sweet kid.

They do, but he has to ask, or I have to arrange because they have busy lives and it isn't on their radar.

He is 11 and there is a KMart about 6 blocks from the house, so hopefully next year, I can just give him the money and he can go pick something out himself. Not ideal, but at least he will be able to do it independently.

DH splurged and got me the Modalu bag I mentioned a few months ago (he snagged it when it was 50% off) and I can't wait to get it. I need a new coat so I may ask my parents for that. Other than just some relaxation and good dates nights with him (we'll both be out of school and I'm off work for two whole weeks!), I've pretty much got everything else I need right now!
