  • Clothes/toys/books for 8yo girl

I referenced this in another thread, but I wanted to post this separately ... hope it's okay.

A dear friend of mine lives in KC and lost her home and all of her family's belongings in a horrible fire last night. Thankfully they weren't home at the time so she and her husband and daughter are all safe, but they've lost everything. And right before Christmas ... My friend has been through so much in her life and is one of the most kind-hearted, generous people you could ever meet.

Her daughter is 8yo and wears size 7/8 clothes and size 1.5-2 shoes. If you happen to have any girls' clothing in that size (or toys/books/etc) that your child has maybe outgrown and that you might be willing to donate to this family, please PM me and I will send you her address.

    Thanks so much.

Oh, that is just dreadful. I don't have anything used for an 8yo but perhaps there is something else I can do? Would a gift card be helpful?

I don't either, but please let us know if there's anything else we could do. I can't imagine losing everything, let alone before the holidays.

Could you start an Indiegogo or Kickstarter site for them? Those of us who don't have any physical things to give could donate some money that could either go directly to the family, or you could use it to purchase some things on our behalf. It hurts my heart thinking about losing everything like that, especially right before Christmas. I'd love to do something to help.

                Thanks, guys.

Just to update, it looks like some of the damage might have been minimized if there had been an adequate water source nearby:

                So awful.

There's been a FB page set up to help the family.

Our friends have raised around $500; part of that will be used to buy her daughter the American Girl doll that was supposed to be a Christmas present but was lost in the fire, and the rest put on a Target gift card for them to use as they wish.

Which AG doll was it? I'm totally down to take care of that.

Wow, I am blown way by your offer, W. That is so very generous of you.

I asked, and was told that Danielle liked the Caroline doll.

                    You are awesome.

I'm ordering it right now. Do you think I'll need to do rush shipment to make it in time for Christmas? I'm assuming they're shipping from somewhere near Chicago.

Without rush shopping, it will get there by the 24th. That makes me nervous. I'm ordering it 3-day, guaranteed.

I got all teary-eyed reading this...

This is why I love this group. I have had medspouses IRL, who I told about the site, look at me like I'm crazy...they have no idea why I would bother building a network online (they used to make me feel weird about it actually...now I don't care). But you guys are all seriously amazing.

I don't know any other people, IRL or otherwise, that are willing to reach out to people they don't know like you guys do.
