Those would be Richard Adams. Douglas Adams is also fantastic, but he wrote The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy and several others. He died too young, and didn't write a whole lot, because he didn't write all that quickly. He also has a great quote about loving the wooshing sound that deadlines make as they go past.

You sure had me confused. Douglas Adams wrote Watership Down AND The Hitchhiker's Guide?? Mind blown. Thanks for the correction so I didn't end up walking around thinking that for the next few years.
