Dd got immunized on Tuesday, and last night started complaining of a sore throat and tummy ache. She was basically up all night with a low grade fever, the poor thing. Did you or your kids have an adverse reaction to the flu shot?

We were late to the game. I got my flu shot back in Nov-Dec, and dh got his last week. I had no reaction and dh had a stomach ache.

No, but she got the single dose version (I like to avoid the thimerosal) back in Oct. Our ped actually won't give the flumist to anyone under 2, and she was almost 2 at that point

No rxn whatsoever to Flumist for myself, DH or DD this year. DS is too young for Flumist, but he had no rxn to either shot (2x for 1st-timers). Flumist does offer more protection this year as it is quadrivalent, most of the injectables were trivalent. H1N1 was covered in both I believe and that is the most common circulating strain currently.

Yeah, they'll only do it for 2+ year olds and up. Next year, remind me to have dd done on a Friday.

I wasn't sure if she was actually coming down with something. Today she said she was feeling fine, so I sent her to school. I think I'll pick her up early since she got such lousy sleep.

Ugh, I'm taking the kids in today and going in tomorrow for myself. I have a friend here in Everett whose daughter had a fever for 3 days after her shot -- the mom felt terrible because she's anti-vax but felt like they needed to do this one since she's pregnant. So she felt really guilty for doing that to her daughter. But honestly, the flu is so bad this year. A small reaction is probably worth it.

I was planning to get the shot and not the mist, but will report back.

My kids got the mist. No reactions. I got the shot that goes under the skin instead of in the muscle. The spot was red and sore for five days! It's fine now.

Yes. It's bad this year! Dh's hospital has seen a few cases of swine flu in recent weeks. It hasn't been a terrible reaction, but enough that I'd consider getting vaccinated closer to a weekend, like you are doing with your kids, A.

The kids got the mist early, back in September. DH and I just got the shots in the 4th , DH got sick Monday night but was down for about 36 hours. The flu had been really bad here too.

We don't do the mist but I will say that all of us had arm pain for 2-3 days after vax. Dh is taking dd19 to get hers today because she put it off and her college is out of the vax. An 11 year old just died last week and others within the state.

DS got the mist and didn't have any reaction, but I have a friend who gets really sick every time she get a the flu vaccination. (She stopped getting it a few years ago and just takes her chances.) It's very possible M wasn't feeling well because of it, or maybe she just fought off a random bug.

We got a note sent home that 4 kids at school have been diagnosed with the flu. There was a local news story last night about a woman who was pregnant and lost her baby recently. She wanted to get the word out so others would get vaccinated. So sad, but so good of her to share her story.

I *just* read the info sheet that I was given (and promptly shoved into the depths of my purse), and dd has the first three symptoms listed for kids: abdominal pain, sniffles, and sore throat.

Many of the kids in dd's class don't get immunized. It's mind-boggling, because it's a bigger pre-k environment (in that it's a school that goes through 5th grade) in a large city. Oh well, I know that's not the point, but I would worry endlessly that my dd could catch something very serious.
