Wow. And yikes. It makes you wonder - if you knew you had 40 years to live, would you make the same choices in your life...

      I can't even imagine...

My sister sent me that this morning it was sobering on so many levels. Lung cancer for non-smokers is such a sad disease.

Is anyone else thinking what I'm thinking? You lost thirty pounds and had horrible back pain. And you suspected cancer for some time... Why did you wait so long to see a MD? NSG residency my cause you a pain in the ass, but you don't lose 30 pounds and suffer severe back pain. Holy cow...what would you have told a friend to do, if he came to you with these symptoms. I wonder if there is more to this story...months of misdiagnoses or something.

It is wrenchingly sad to read.

My DH actually did lose 30lbs the first two weeks of his "bad year" of jr residency....

So many physicians neglect themselves...really sad to read how far along his cancer is but I hope it makes other docs really consider their own health as much as they would their loved ones' and patients'.

This is exactly what happened to my stepfather. He was a physician and had back pain. By the time he got checked out, he was in his final stage of prostate cancer. It was to his bones. I am so grateful that my husband is the complete opposite. If he thinks something is wrong, he's going to his IM immediately.

Wow. Yeah. My DH hasn't seen a dr since I've known him. (Almost 10years). He did have two pretty thorough physicals for insurance, but that's it. I don't think he would go even if he suspected something was wrong. He is "way too busy"..... So yeah, I guess my point is I could see him getting himself into this type of situation.

Same here. I had to really badger my DH to go to the dr. about an old knee injury bothering him...and he only finally did that because it interfered with his running. I want him to get a physical though bc his dad has a history of high cholesterol...still hasn't happened. Ugh.

This is one thing I like about our insurance - it requires DH and I to each get a physical from a physician every other year to get the company payout to our HSA. I know a lot can happen in two years and things could still get missed but at least we're getting them.
