  • email/tech question

I have found out that I am not receiving emails from various places in my hotmail account. I check the spam folder and the emails are not there. One email had a huge file attached and another had several links. Both of these emails were pretty important. Can someone smarter than me figure out why this is happening? Suggestions/help?

Did the people who sent the emails get bounces? If they did, have them send you the bounce message, and, if possible, the full header for it; error messages in bounces are usually pretty descriptive, if you know enough about how email works. If not, are there any spam settings on your hotmail account? Can you turn it off, or dial it back? The large attachment might have bounced because of the size of the attachment, but links shouldn't trigger any spamminess in and of themselves, unless the content of the message was inadvertantly spammy.

I don't know how to fix it, but I have a friend who uses Hotmail, and she was having similar issues not receiving various emails. They wouldn't show up in Spam either -- just completely gone. It sounded like a known issue for many people with Hotmail. You may need to use a different email client

Yes, Hotmail is mysterious. I have an account that I use to check receipt/formatting for some of the mass email newsletters I send. Sometimes they come through, sometimes they don't. I assumed they must have great automatic settings for spam filtering, but it isn't consistent.
