Yup on potato bugs and Seattle. Why do some of them roll up and some not...? I guess not all potato bugs are created equal.

Oh god, Jerusalem crickets.
So. Gross.
I encountered one in LA in 2006 - never saw one before, asked native CA roommate and SHE didn't even know what it was.
I kid you not, it was 4-5 inches long and 1-2 inches wide.
I don't freak out over bugs or anything, but that thing was huge!

Fwiw, this is what stopped me from calling roly-poly bugs potato bugs (even though I grew up calling them potato bugs in WA state):
