  • Did I damage my van?

I drove to the Cities and realized after I had been driving 70mpg for an hour that I was in 3rd gear instead of drive. Ugh! I guess I just wasn't paying close attention. Do you think I did damage to my van?

If the RPM's weren't revving then no probably not - if they were you most likely would have noticed. But you did kill your gas mileage!

I noticed the rpm was up and even worried about it. Finally it occurred to me to pay attention to the gear.

It depends on year, make and model. Here's someone asking the same question. Actually there are a few threads like this with varying answers.

Hmmm. That thread created more questions. I guess since it seems to be running fine now, I don' need to worry? I can't believe I did that. Dangit!!!!
