  • Dog Question…

So we are obsessed with our 12 month old Chocolate lab. She is the best. The breeder we got her from have become our good friends. Our girl's parents have only had two litters, and this one was Mom's last. The breeder texted me yesterday saying a pup from her first littler (2 years old now) is needing to be re-homed. The family has a young child who is going to start chemo and radiation and they won't be around to care for the pup like they would like to. They just want him to go to a new home where he'll be taken care of. No cost or fee, he'd been fixed and has had all shots. He's great with kids and would be, I think, an awesome example for our pup.

How is life with two dogs? Is it easier or more difficult? How am I going to love another dog as much as her?! lol… strange I know, but she's our kid!

We had two - it honestly wasn't bad - you still do the same stuff, but with two. Obviously the food costs and vet bills double. Also, do you go on long walks with her (vs just letting her in the yard?). I would have had a hard time walking two strong dogs with a stroller.

I have always had two and love it. I go with the idea that they are pack animals and like having a buddy!!!

2 suits us well - however, one of our boys is completely fine with being beta in their little pack, so we've never had fights break out.
I assume if you have an existing dog that has an alpha personality, it would be better to get a puppy that can be shaped into beta, or a younger dog that does well in that role.

Our dog is pretty submissive so I'm thinking it could work well. We are doing a doggy date on Wednesday just to see how it all goes. ImageUploadedByTapatalk1396918907.107601.jpg

Seriously. How adorable. It breaks my heart what they are going through with their little one.

Yep I'm in the two-is-better camp, mainly because they have a buddy. Aside from increase in cost, the only other inconvenience for us has been that they have to be walked separately (if DH was home to walk them we could go together but I can't handle the two of them on my own, they get too riled up when we pass another dog and have injured me before jumping around like idiots trying to get away). I hope the play date goes well!

Yep, I wish we had gotten two when M was a puppy, IF we get another after she passes I'd rather have two.

ITA with what everyone has said - besides doubling the care/food cost, two is easier...three was crayyyzy. You should never be outnumbered. . If your labs are rambunctious as my two, they can wear each other out while you sit and watch. . Oh, and there is always a tattle tale that will update you on any mischief 90% of the time. They are an accomplice the other 10%.
Finally - we are finished with training! Hello real world!!
