  • Sunday's NY Times: Doctors' Salaries Are Not the Big Cost

This has been making the rounds on Facebook. The article says what we've been saying around here for a looong time.

But the thing is my DH would never ever work as a CEO or VP of anything. He was once in the business world, working his way up. It was the most miserable time of our married life. Soul sucking. Not for us, not worth it. We'd take a "measly" (according to the article) $185,000 any day of the week over being stuck in the rat race again.

So, do you think the executives have earned the big bucks?

I was so glad they finally wrote this when I read it yesterday. Regardless of whether or not the executives earn their salaries, I like that it really puts doctors' salaries in perspective. I still feel like some people think doctor salaries are a big part of why healthcare is so expensive - which is such a joke. I'm pretty sure DH makes his salary for the hospital about once a week (possibly a few times a week). I just appreciate every time the media throws this out there.

I appreciated but didn't repost. If I has been posting these types of articles as a poor single musician I feel like I'd have more of a listening ear but my Facebook friends give absolutely no love when I post these types of articles. Like I sold out or something.

I had to laugh at the average CEO salary. The CEO of the community hospital DH worked at made $750k a year. Meanwhile they were cutting pay and laying off staff due to budget cuts.

Umm here I think they make like $3M.... I think they have like 12 VPs of something that make over $1M, although I have to look that up to sure of numbers (but the local paper publishes the salaries pretty frequently).

I have A LOT of thoughts about this, but I'll include a local article that basically cites multiple hospital executives in the area for NOT FOR PROFIT organizations posting salaries of 1.5-3 million dollars.

Pay them whatever the hell you want. Really, this is capitalism. Nonetheless, think twice about this while you are reducing everyone else's pay and reducing the work force due to budget constraints.

                  That's nuts JDAZ11.
A lot of the bigger charities have CEO's earning similar amounts. It's unbelievable.

I was wrong - the CEO makes $6.5M. And a bunch of the VPs made over $2M!
