Changes coming for the MCAT in 2015. This article discusses the pros and cons of taking the MCAT before the changes take effect. Will the changes make med school administration more competitive? Produce better doctors? Or is it like law school where the LSAT has nothing to do with law school or law practice?

Dd20 recently signed up to take the "old" MCAT. She has a really heavy course load and work in the spring so she is opting to take the test this fall. She has had multiple responses as if she should take the old or new test and currently the consensus is to take the old one IF you have time to prepare (ie: don't rush just to take the old test).

I think it's nothing more than a data point that really says not much of anything about how someone will be as a physician or even how they will do in medical school. Let's be honest, these tests are a business, they have to switch them up every once and awhile to justify their own existence.

They're adding psychology and sociology to better identify people who are likely to connect with patients? That's absurd. I don't think it's ever been a good indicator of how good of a physician someone will be, but I think this change is likely going to be even worse.

On a side note, as someone who participates in the review of graduate student admissions, the changes to the GRE have made it so difficult to judge students. We get combinations of old and new scores, and it's really hard to compare them and figure out who is good and who isn't. Not that the GRE is a good indicator anyway, but the changes make it worse.

But won't that eliminate all the radiologists and pathologists????

Kidding, sort of. We were discussing upcoming intern year and DH said "I hate people"

I told him we should get that engraved on a plaque to go under his degree
