  • You all are wonderful :)

Just wanted to give a shout out to all of you wonderful ladies (and gents) on this site. I've been going through a really rough time over the past week - lost my job last week, spending lots of time at home alone with my cats now, DH starting PGY2 in surgery and working 15-16 hrs a day and way too tired to pay me any attention when he is home, 2000 miles away from our closest family and living in a town we aren't thrilled to be in. Basically, life SUCKS right now. But this site and the forums on it are making me feel better than I have all week. Even though we're spread across the country, we all have a common experience that is such a huge part of our lives and is unique to us medical spouses. It's so true (and so frustrating) that no one else can really understand. So, thank you for being here to commiserate.

        Aww,

I'm so sorry about your job! I know that can be so demoralizing. It's like a really brutal break-up. And then there are the financial ramifications on top of the emotional devastation. I went through this myself when my husband was a PGY-2. I totally get it. So glad you are here. Hope we can help.

Hi! I've heard many people love St. Louis! How long have you lived there?

I'm sorry that you're going through a rough time right now, and very sorry about your job. You will get through it. I know in the times I've not had much or any work I've taken a lot of time to read, exercise, and try to enjoy the down time. For me it seems that when I'm busiest all I want is to get a break and then when I have nothing to do I'm so anxious to be busy again! Especially when I don't have much going on I try to stop and enjoy the peace.

Hope to hear more from you!

Aww, hugs! I really hope you're able to find another job quickly. It seems like it takes us a couple years to get settled somewhere, so maybe this year will be better than last. We're here for you, wherever you end up!

Thank you all for the support! I should clarify: my DH went to med school in St. Louis and I agree with a lot of you - it's a great city that we grew to appreciate and now miss a lot. We're actually in W Virginia now for residency. Talk about culture shock! What I wouldn't give to be back in St. Louis! (or a lot of other places really). Any of you happen to be in this neck of the woods? I'll see if I can update my profile so it's accurate

We have one member that lived there for residency in WV way back in the day. Maybe 6 years ago? Not sure of we have members there now, but many in Pitt and Ohio.

Welcome! I'm not crazy about where we are (we're in Virginia) and also moved away from all our family and friends which really hurt - still does - but I'm trying to have a better attitude about it, so I understand feeling down and isolated about that aspect. We hope you stick around! This place is wonderful and has been a life saver for me!
