  • Need F-ing APA style help STAT!

Ughhhhh! I have to write a compare and contrast paper about two articles.
    Read the articles - check
    Critiqued articles - check
    Wrote paper - check
Made sure it is in APA format....I have spent all f-ing day looking up crap. I am sure that at some point it will be just as easy as writing in AMA BUT until then...

Can someone please tell me how to refer to the articles in the body of the paper? I keep looking for examples online but they all just give me examples of how to cite my references....I got that. How do I say "as presented in article full of crap" or "mind numbing article states" - uggghhhhhh - I feel like an idiot. I know that I should use the author's names when referencing an article but I am comparing and contrasting two articles. Is there still a need to continually list the author's names? In AMA you listed it once and assign it a number and that is that. From hence forth you shall be that number.

    Heeeeelllllllp

Are you using a reference management software like Zotero, EndNote, or Refworks? They have word processor plugins that do all the work for you.

Keep in mind that an article cannot "state", but an author can.

There are many, many, MANY rules for APA. In writing a paragraph, you cite the authors of the study then the year of the study in parenthesis behind their names the first time you introduce them in a paragraph (this is parenthetical citation). In the same paragraph, if you reference the same study, you don't have to put the year after the author's names again. But if you talk about the same study in a different paragraph, you must cite the year again.

There are also rules on when you can use et al. Check the Owl site, it's awesome if you don't have the current APA manual.

Thank you so much! I had to do a compare and contrast paper on two journal articles which I honestly thought were crappy. In medicine, if 10 people said the sky is blue, you list them as 1-10. if later, you list something that #3 said, you just add a 3. It just seems so much more concise than listing the authors over and over. Honestly, I am just out of practice. I used APA before just not in the last 10 years. I should have texted you because I was about to pull my hair out! I went ahead and turned in last night and I am hoping for the best. It is only 5% of the grade. Hopefully, I can only go up if it was reeeeeally bad.
