  • Happy New Year!

Today is the day! I remember our first day of residency like it was yesterday. Thomas had call and I was alone with Andrew and Amanda. Amanda was just a few weeks old. Here we are 13 years out of training. Thirteen. Holy cow. It took us a few years to crawl out of debt and to recover as a family .... but here we are with five kids and a calm, happy life.

I send all of my best wishes to all of the new interns .... and a hearty congrats to the new fully minted docs.

He had a good first day and is already passed out on the couch. I wish I was able to prioritize my sleep needs like that...let the bitterness begin

First day here went really well, too! He wrapped up his day two hours late but I expected that. We made dinner together, ate together, and then he hopped into bed. Overall, a solid first day!

I think hubby is enjoying PGY2 so far, though the days are long and busy. First call is tomorrow, while E and I are traveling.

So DH is on my sisters (nurse) floor after all. It's kind of funny. She paged him today for something.

DH is really tired but it really hasn't been hard on me yet. I expected him to be home a lot later than he was--the upside of low expectations. His first day off isn't til next week, but he avoided night float and he is pretty sure his next month is a radiology elective.

I've been traveling and working a ton so it hasn't been bad yet. One of the new second years is clearly miserable/awful at his job (he's just now doing Uro full time). It's making everyone nervous he's going to quit. I selfishly don't want them to go down a person because it'll make both junior and senior call worse someone in terms of higher frequency.

I hope he gets his shit together.
