Ask for more money. Don't say you'll take the job no matter what (even though you know it's true). ALWAYS negotiate. Good luck!

Obviously wait for the offer, then definitely spell out why you are excited but how this is a significant paycut. Tell them that you would like a higher salary. If that is nonnegotiable, is telecommuting one or two days a week possible? That would minimize the time suck AND potentially free you up to earn more dough if you needed some help floating finances for awhile. SOMETHING in this offer will be negotiable. You will never know if you don't ask.

You might want to mention that it would be an hour commute for you as well, i.e. more money spent on gas, car maintenance, etc. I did this with a previous job that I commuted 30 miles (45 min - 1 hr depending on traffic) for, and they increased the offer.

Is there a polite was to say ; I'll take it no matter what, I knew what the rate was when I went in. But I would really really really like more money?
Didn't you say that things changed during the interview? So, you did not go into it agreeing to work for X. Remember, they NEED you and you do not need them (you have your higher paying job now). I would negotiate either more paid vacay, flex time/work from home and whatever you think will make your life better given the cut in pay.

              Interesting point.

The job description had nothing to do with design. It was a plain old run of the mill Project Manager.
Didn't say anything about designing a new hospital. I mean; how many people have designed a new hospital in the last two years?

I have a skill set that they did not envision when filling out the job requisition.

                  THIS is job satisfaction.
And I'd do it over again for free. Please don't tell them that.

I wonder if they would house you (executive apartment) three nights a week. Four days away, two drives and three days home wouldn't be bad. I would hate driving two hours a day, but some people do it and don't mind.

That hospital is amazing! I love the yellow submarine ct scan. What does the fire truck do?

Just in case you thought God didn't have a sense of humor.

I received my offer from the hospital last night. They actually ran it by the VP of IT and bumped the pay 10%. Something the recruiter said couldn't happen.
I asked for 48 hours to consider the offer and get back.

                        Here is the kicker!

This morning there was an email from the Children's Hospital of _____ Australia.
The 'Project Officer' is interested in me.
(Yes, I checked, it is real)

Hospitals are run by the government there and it checks out.

                        I'm completely stunned.
Just when I think I have completed the project of my career, This.

Amazing - when it rains, it pours! But, would you have to move to Australia? If so, it kinda makes things harder...
