I went back to school yesterday, kids (including two of mine) come back tomorrow, and my oldest heads back to college on Friday. It is cool here today...makes me worry about the upcoming winter! I *always* think summer is too short...even during the 8 years I spent in TX.

The winding down of Summer

I am more than fine with this summer being over. It means 1) almost to the end of morning sickness for me (hopefully!) and 2) almost the end of DH's horrible, terrible, no good, very bad first two rotation months. After that it will still be the hectic hours of residency, but he'll be done with this hell-hole of a service (everyone agrees it's the worst in the hospital), so hopefully his stress level will at least be a bit lower.
The school year doesn't really affect me at this point in life, although my baby sister moves into her college dorm for freshman orientation yesterday, which is SUPER weird! Makes me feel old. And jealous. I want to go do college all over again.Wife of a PGY-1 podiatric surgery resident, mom to two cat babies with a human one on the way!

Been a long summer for us as we moved across the country and med school started. The weather hasn't been that great in Cleveland since we arrived. It's been nicer in Seattle (old home) EVERY DAY. But not ready for winter yet!Wife of PGY-2 Gen Surg, gluten/dairy free cook and patron to a big black cat

Fall can suck it.
I thought this summer has been great so far but 1) have only lived thru 2 winters here and 2) will be very upset if this winter was like the last.

They don't have fall here, to my knowledge. I'll be missing my favorite season, but DH says we should be able to take a small road trip "up north" to see color change.
Swimming lessons are winding down, and I am preparing DS to go to "school", which is crazy.
The doctor appointments are ramping up, which also make me feel like we are running into the future. I'm trying hard not to wish this hot, uncomfortable time away, and instead, view it as precious time before major transitions. DS and I cuddle every morning, and I know one day he won't want to anymore. Making the most of it!Wife to Family Medicine attending, Mom to DS1 and DS2

Many times I have been glad for fall to finally come, but this year I will be sorry to see summer go--it's been great. I'm really enjoying my kids' ages and this was our first year joining the pool since moving to the South, which means the first year we could actually be outdoors and having fun at the same time. The playground isn't exactly fun when it's 95 out. My kids are young enough that they still want to interact with me, but old enough that I'm not so harried. I was actually kind of sad at the "lounge-chair mom" article from the beginning of the summer. I don't want to be a lounge chair mom, but I am glad to no longer be the "frazzled mom"--a description I recognized well!
I still need work time during the summer, so for June and July I had them do a mishmash of different local day camps about every other week, and they're old enough to be good at that and to have a wider choice of camps, so that was a lot of fun.
My pre-K-er started MWF mornings at the beginning of August, and my 1st grader starts next week. Our routine this year will actually be very similar to last year's, which is good. We've finally booked a Disney World trip for November, so we still have that to look forward to, but I will be very sad to see this summer go. We've had a lot of good times and much to be grateful for since moving here, but I've still struggled with a niggling sense that I "used to be happier" in the back of my mind. This summer is the first time I feel like I've finally really shaken that.Married to a hematopathologist seven years out of training.

I've had the kids in the summer session of their preschool, so summer has been a lot like the rest of the year. (Except I've been letting DD sleep in a little, so we usually get there about 5-10 minutes late, which I don't do during the school year.)
This is their last week of summer session, and then they'll have two weeks off before the fall semester starts. DH will be gone all of next week, so it'll just be me home with the kids. Not really sure what we'll be doing, but it'll have to be indoors. So hot! I'm also ready for fall when they can play outside again for any significant amount of time.Laurie

We've had fall-like weather the past two days, and I'm officially ready for fall. I love long-sleeve tee shirt weather. It's perfect. I need to get my act together and plan a fall mini-vacay for the family. I'd like to get out to Lake Placid again for leaf peeping.-Ladybug

I can't walk to my car without breaking into a sweat (quite literally) so yeah, fall you come on over any time now please! I hate summers here. It's too hot to exist. It's ironic because we're just a short drive from a pretty busy beach town and it's packed all summer. I avoid the beach like the plague this time of year. Sept and Oct are perfect beach months to me.Wife of a surgical fellow; Mom to a busy toddler girl and 5 furballs (2 cats, 3 dogs)

This summer has been strange. The weather has been SO much cooler than usual and hasn't felt like summer most of the summer. So I'm not tired of hot weather yet. School starts tomorrow as well as many activities. My oldest goes back to college next weekend. I am still LOVING my part time job. Found out today that it will end the beginning of October...that is probably best. I have a lot of things going on this year, but I will miss it and will need to find something for next year.
