  • Ding a Ling

    Random funny story.

Back when I was probably about 8, I went through a big radio phase. I listened to the oldies station through the influence of my dad and thought it was super cool to request songs and call for radio contests. I remember one summer I was obsessed with a certain radio contest.

Anyway, they occasionally played a song on the oldies station called Ding a Ling:

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=un59ZLOti9Y

I thought it was quite catchy and distinctly remember running around the house singing it. On one occasion, my mom let me call in and request it. '

Then about 10-12 years later I figured out what ding a ling was referring to and was slightly horrified and mostly amused. Those DJs must have been laughing their asses off at the little girl calling in to request that song.

The other night my family was over and it came up. I asked my mom, "why the heck did you let me sing that and request it on the radio? Did you just think it was funny?" She had no idea what I was talking about or what was wrong with the song. Finally I said, "MOM IT MEANS PENIS"

    She had no idea.

I think this sounds a lot like my love of the song "Brick House."

I taught it to my 4 year old sister: she would sing the chorus...
