Psychiatry. I like listening to others and trying to help. I'm very interested in neuroscience and how the brain impacts emotion/behavior.

Derm. Lol. Lifestyle and I get a lot of pleasure out of popping zits.

Funny enough, I hope to be faced with this decision in a few years. I'll probably end up in ortho though.

Let's be totally honest, probably pathology. I don't like people that much.

Pediatrics. No question. Or neonatology. I love babies and kids.

Definitely derm for me, too. Mainly because of the lifestyle and the ability to try all the skin care samples

Do you love crazy parents?! A lot of peds is dealing with nutjobs like me.

I don't know---knowing what I know about my dh's orthodontist and what he charges, I'd have to say I'd do that. No nights no weekends no malpractice risk. Just gross mouths to have to look into.

Honestly? None of them. The whole lot of them sound like they are way more work, blood, sweat, tears, and sacrifice than reward, and everyone's favorite pasttime these days is to drag docs through the mud and talk about how they are opportunistic, selfish money grubbers who dishonestly advise you so as to bulk up their bank accounts. Not to mention the rude abuse and sense of entitlement patient caregivers (nurses, techs, docs, etc.) encounter. The rampant misunderstanding of how healthcare/hospitals/physician employment work just means everyone and their brother talk talk talk shit about the only handful of people in the country who are smart, capable, selfless, and ambitious enough to care for the rest of the population who are perfect strangers day in and day out. It makes me sick, I'd want no part of it.

                    Sorry, bad day.

To sum it up, it's exactly what I tell anyone who expresses disbelief or shock at what DH has had to do/will have to do/has to deal with and how long the process is: "better him than me."

I'm just glad I switched from pre-med to business! I'd probably have done okay in family medicine or pediatrics, but I'm glad I don't have to work in medicine.

Good point on the parents, Alison I think soothing worries and fears is an important part, but I imagine it gets old. Not so much the worrier parents, but the ones who don't give a crap. DH actually loved peds except for that.

I decided med school was not for me at about 10 years old when I learned you had to do a cadaver lab. Nope. No way.

My poor kids' pediatrician went on vacation and I brought C in to see one of her colleagues when something was up. C's pediatrician called to see what was going on when she was back at work, and the first thing I said was "how dare you go on vacation!" Silence. And then I said "it was a joke!!!" Lol. I'm pretty sure she thought I was serious, because I'm nuts. When she sees us on the schedule, I'm certain she has to take some deep breaths to face the day. peds is not for me!

I love the science, and the cadavers. (Sorry, ST!)

The lifestyle and years of training make me want to steer clear, even though DH sometimes asks me if I want to go (HAHAHAHAHA!).

I have no clue, but I enjoy: anything that needs lancing, scraping, or packing. Helping women know and understand their bodies to make empowered decisions regarding their health.

Helping people feel validated, and emotionally/mentally/spiritually healthy.

                              What specialty is that, again?
