  • How should I thank my neighbor?

Background: great neighbors in early 70's. Recently, he fixed my pop up while I was out of town and made it ready/legal to drive. I gave him a $25 gift certificate to Olive Garden.

Today, he came over with his two young grandsons and cut down/disposed of our large, dead, weeping willow. Then they (with Alex) dismantled the 2-story play house I built a few years ago. Board by board.

Right now, they are disposing of the garbage from the playhouse.

How should I thank him? He offered to do this a few weeks ago because our tree was dead. What would you do?

I feel like a card with cash would be best.
    200? 250? More?

I think a $200 gift card to Target or the local supermarket would be great with a sincere note of thanks.

Also a few batches of homemade cookies!

Do you know anything about his interests? I think the card is a lot of money and would make me uncomfortable receiving. If I thought you were going to do that everytime I'd be nervous about helping and putting that pressure on you.

Why do think he's doing it? Do you have a close relationship with him? Is he retired and bored? Do they have grandkids or have they adopted yours?

What about a gift certificate to a local (non chain) restaurant?

Yes to all of this. He may really just want to do something in his spare time. That would meek me uncomfortable. A very heartfelt thank you note and I guess maybe a small (say $50) gift card to a restaurant if you really feel the need to give him something else.
