  • Quick Be My Doctor ?

So I badly broke two of my toes just now. Like no question in my mind. Theyre pointing in different non-normal directions. My DH is on call and is of absolutely no help. Should I go into the emergency room to have them re-set? They are my third & fourth toes if it matters.

P.S. I love you all for even reading this and am so fucking pissed my DH can't be available even to answer this.

    Ortho?
I think if they're that far down, you have to buddy tape. But I'm ignorant.

DH (not ortho) says yes b/c they are pointing the wrong direction. Ouch! I'm sorry!

Don't go to the emergency room… It will take too long. If they need to be reset and splinted, go to an urgent care clinic.

Some will let you make reservations online...

DH is a comedian. He says "tell her to call a toe truck!" Seriously, though, he says they probably should be "undislocated".

DH says it's one of those things that's totally okay to go in, and totally okay not to. His advice is to buddy tape them (but if you go in they'll numb you up, put them into place, and buddy tape them). I guess it's a matter of pain and inconvenience.

I'd probably go in and get x-rayed just in case the injury is worse than you think. I wouldn't want to have a lifetime of foot trouble because I didn't have the break set correctly in the first place. Can you drive?

DH says, yeah, go to the ER unless you want to straighten them yourself! You just pull on them! (Ouch). If you lived closer...

Thanks a million guys. I don't know what the heck I'm going to do. The pain is such that I really can't walk (I promise I'm not a wuss) and I'm alone caring for my two toddlers. Did I mention my two neighbors and emergency sitters are out if town at a wedding ugh. Worst timing ever. I don't know if there is a non-emergency/urgent care option w/ my insurance. I think I'm going to try to make it through the night and go in in the morning. But pain wah wah wah!

Oh no! If only I lived closer. I'd be there in a heartbeat.

Stay off it. Elevate the shit out of it. As high as you can!!! Lay on the floor and put it on the sofa. HIGH! Ice it. Take Tylenol. If you have something stronger...take that (Lortab, Percocet, Vicodin, etc.)

Put the toddlers to bed. Is there an iMSNer near you? I don't remember where you live?

Toes hurt like a mofo! Hugs.

Will your DH be home in the morning? If not and you can safely drive, I think you should maybe load the kiddos in the car and head to the ED. There's no way you're going to sleep just waiting, so how will you function tomorrow? I just can't imagine you waiting til morning to do anything.

Ice them until you can get to the ED.
