  • Help me decide

Thomas contacted our VW dealer yesterday about getting a Routan. Since that call, the word has hit the street that my beloved van is no longer. I have gotten some actual condolences by mechanics at the shop who new how much I loved my van. I love geeky car people. I digress.

While I've been searching Carsoup for cheap deals on any van (with an eye to the Routan, because we are VW people), Thomas has hooked up with the person who sells us all of our cars. They have come up with two options that I'm supposed to go test drive in less than two hours (hurry, respond to this thread quickly).

Van #1. White. (I have mixed feelings about driving something that looks like a grocery delivery van). Fully loaded including 2 DVD players. A little cheaper (17K) with 45,000 miles and a warranty to 100K.

Van #2. Black. (personal preference, but I can deal with anything. Hell, white would be easier to put flowers and stickers on!). Fully loaded but only 1 DVD player. More expensive (24K) with 11,000 miles and warranty to 100K.

Help. I will likely have to make a choice. Hurry and jump on this post!

White is easier to keep clean. 11,000 miles is way better.

    Tough call!!!

#2. Don't really have a reason why, I guess. Lower mileage, better color IMO.

If you can afford it, get the lower mileage.

The black just sold. So midnight blue vs. White. Boohoo. I really liked the black. Maybe I should just hold out and wait for another black or go to the Cities. Does color matter?

Oh wait. The WHITE is gone. I got my wires crossed.

They have a gray one in with 40,000 miles to compete with the black with 11k.

Groan. Why can't one of you live close to me to go with me?

All things being equal, I would go for low mileage.

Low mileage definitely seems like a good factor to consider. The gray van is only 2k less than the black van, but it has 40,000 miles instead of 11,000. I figure that's nearly 30,000 miles for me to drive with a warranty....

It's silly to feel so excited about getting a new (to me) vehicle. I believe I've moved past the grief stage (LOL) and into the excitement stage.

Id go for low mileage too. I hate white vans because my family drove a 15 seater airport van as a child that was white. Someone did get in it at the airport once!

I also feel like white would look like hell during the slushy winters.

I wouldn't worry about only 1 DVD player. Ours has 2 and you can see the one in the front just fine from the back.

You are going to adore it. I love mine so much.

I would get the black one. How are you going to decorate this one?

BTW, sorry about the other van. May she rest in peace.

Another vote for low mileage. I wouldn't get the white either but since that's off the table color is a toss up to me.

Also make sure they give you warranty paperwork.

The dealer I went to pulled the whole "the paperwork is all digital" thing when I bought it. Lo and behold last month the van needed $2500 in repairs (sliding door issue and AC compressor shot) and the warranty wasn't in the system.

Luckily an email I had from the salesperson saved me
But I had to go to the top of the dealership to get it resolved and was almost out a ton of money.

So definitely get something about the warranty on paper or in an email

I would want blue. I have white. ST can attest for the fact it's usually more of a beige/gray. LOL

I like white. I think black looks dirty quick. Lol. However I would go with the lower milage.
