"Just For Today" megathread. Post little announcements, petty rants, small victories, and superficial confessions here for one day only. But please please please consider opening new threads too. We nosy chickens want to read all the details and talk everything over ad nauseum too.

Trying to get a new PCP nominated for my brother, who is currently on Medicaid, because he turned 26 and was dropped.
My dad's HR is working on adding him, because he has a disability dx from birth, but he's sick now, so I'm helping out by calling in.

Medicaid sucks: they wouldn't talk to me, so I got transferred to DHS. I had to add myself on DHS, then Medicaid, and now I'm back on hold with Medicaid to get them to recognize the new PCP, so my brother can be seen.
During the first call, they wanted him on the phone to confirm all this -- he can't be on the phone, because he's in another state, and is sick... Annnnd, he's an autistic man that may or may not understand what you are asking. *sigh*

75 minutes later... I am finally to the point that I can set an appointment for him. I have called Medicaid 5 times, DHS twice, a local clinic twice, and the practice that is actually excepting new patients, twice.

I'm on my phone and can't get to all the smilies but if I could I'd insert the bang-head-against-the-wall one. How frustrating Thirteen.

Rave: After a week and a half of having zero sense of smell thanks to my head cold, today I can finally smell again!
Rant: My sniffer unveiled a serious case of House Funk, including a couple of spots on the rug where the dog had peed and it had dried before I noticed. Grrr.

                Long DH rave:
My Dad (82) lives nearby. I have several younger siblings, but for various reasons, I am "in charge" as my Dad has aged and needs help. Up to now, he has been fairly self-sufficient, but he recently had all of his top teeth pulled in preparation for getting dentures. Getting the dentures has taken longer than expected (of course), and in the meantime, he hasn't been eating well. He passed out and fell on Saturday, and has decided that he wants to move to assisted living. He had previously visited a nearby facility and discovered that they offer a veteran's benefit that assists with cost (which he would need) if he is certified by a doctor as suffering from a chronic condition. His fainting/dizziness has gone on for a while, so he figured he might qualify. As luck would have it, the veterans' counselor was going to be at the facility this afternoon, and we were able to get Dad an appt. with his PCP this afternoon also. I was planning to take the afternoon off, but DH was already scheduled to be off this afternoon (post-call), so he told me not to worry about it, and he took my dad to the assisted living facility, the doctor, *back* to the assisted living facility to put down a deposit, ate dinner with him there, and took him home. He's awesome and I don't deserve him!

Wow, it's actually kind of awesome how my schedule worked out. I teach until either 8 or 9 (and then I have a 30-45 min drive home) each night except Wednesdays when I finish at 6. I'm home and so full of energy!! Usually have another 2.5 hours of teaching.

There was a snake in the pool!!!! See snake phobia thread. I am never, ever, ever going out again. . I know...totally irrational. As irrational as me sobbing and shaking in DH's arm when he ran out as he heard my screams. I.am.such.a.drama.queen...when it comes to snakes.

The rave is I made us a fab cocktail. Mixed meyer lemon simple syrup, vodka, Leopolds maraschino cherry liquor, fresh lemon juice and mint. I am calling it "found and f-ing snake in the pool"
Finally - we are finished with training! Hello real world!!
