(or just come commiserate with me because this seriously blows...)
So I've been having hoooooorible migraines about once a week for the past month or so -- like lay on the couch, try not to move, turn all lights and sound off, with an ice pack on my head for 2 days kinda migraines. It's miserable. I've had migraines my entire life but half a tab of some sort of triptan at onset usually takes care of them and they're not too debilitating. Well now being pregnant, I can't take triptans. Apparently it's a big no no. I went to see the neurologist today, one who specializes in pregnancy and headaches, and basically all they can do for me at this point still being in the first trimester is give me sleeping pills so I can sleep it off. Well that's helpful .
SO fellow migraine sufferers, give me some good topical remedies that will get me through this next month or so without chopping off my head until the risk to the fetus reduces and they can put me on medication again.
Things I've use so far:
- ice pack: I've got 3 and they stay practically glued to my neck and head the entire time. It dulls the pain just enough to keep me from vomiting.
- peppermint oil: I swipe it on my temple and back of my neck and I'm actually surprised how pleasant it is (I made the mistake of swiping it on the bridge of my nose once -- peppermint oil that close to the eye is not pleasant, ha); it's a very temporary relief but it's nice nonetheless
- stim machine: I've got a little palm massager (which sounds dirty but it's not) that has sticky pads you stick to your skin and it sends electrical stimulation through the muscles. It helps loosen up the neck and back muscles which can get super tight
- pinky toe pressure point: I actually haven't gotten this to work very well recently but it helped a lot when I was a kid so I'm adding it in case it could help someone else -- basically my mom would pinch my pinky toes pretty hard and it'd give some relief. I've tried replicating it with a thin washcloth and chip clips but haven't gotten it to work quite as well. I'm gonna keep giving it a try though.
Anything else?
