How do you people do it? How do you get sick when you actually have kids??? I'm dying here and have no idea how is handle it if it were three weeks from now. Clearly DH is at the hospital. Holy balls.

Word. What is your support network? Now is a good time to up think about that. Do you have a new moms group? Friends? Sitters?
Somehow it all works out. Usually the kids spend more time sick than the moms. Your will get an superhero immune system quickly.-Ladybug

It's sucks but you get thru it. The worst was the stomach virus with a 10 week old and a 2 year old. Home alone. It was gross but we survived.Married to a Urology Attending! (that is an understated exclamation point)

We were only all sick once. I do think moms get super immunity, or you just stay standing. The time mom plus two kids were sick, I pulled out our sofa couch and we nested in the bed in the living room for several days. Just watched movies and slept, took meds and made bathroom runs. We got through, but it was like I was keeping everyone trapped on a raft for those three days. Arms reach.

I agree, you just do it. I don't really have anyone I can ask for help, so I just power through. What's the alternative, you know? Your DH can't stay home, so you just do the bare minimum to keep everyone alive and dry, watch a lot of TV, then have soup or order pizza for supper. You're stronger than you can ever imagine right now, and that strength always comes through when you need it to.Laurie

The days of trudging through the day in a fevered fog, or spending 24 hours on the bed breastfeeding and diaper-changing an infant and lying around moaning in pain in between dashes to the bathroom for urgent GI matters, are such a misty memory now...they happened, and we all survived, but heck if I know *how* we survived.Alison

I agree you just do it and it really, really sucks. My kids refuse to watch tv for more then 10 minutes (sob), so I neglect them while they smash play dough in the carpet and color on the fridge. As long as it's not permanent I let it all go while praying for death on the couch.
And I've totally missed out on the mom super immunity. I didn't know that was a thing and am insanely jealous. I've never been more sick than I was the first years my children were in child care. I swear kids are the perfect vectors for all illness/disease.

I used to get sick once or twice a year but when DS started daycare I was sick all the time. If I stayed home from work I usually still sent him to daycare.
There was one time when DH and I both had a stomach bug when DS was about 6 months. He sat in his swing and watched DH and I vomiting together. Now we look back on it and laugh.
You just do what you have to to survive and you make it.

If none is available, baby stays right next to you in some safe place (pack n play, Moses basket, co sleeper), water and nourishment are stockpiled nearby, as is a bucket or trash can/tissues/hand sanitizer, etc.

Ditto what everyone else said. And, I've brought in reinforcements. I get neurological migraines where I have difficulty seeing and speaking together with excruciating pain. Sometimes, I cannot walk nonetheless drive and I worry about passing out with three small children in the house. Thankfully, that doesn't happen often but when it does, I call a sitter. It's an indulgence and I always feel awkward having a sitter there while I am indisposed but I'll pay whatever it takes to have another adult in the house when that's happening.
