Certified refurbished Apple products

Any experience with these (good or bad, please)? We're contemplating the purchase of iPad minis for our two older kids. We've always bought new, but the cost (x2) is difficult to swallow.

I read on their website that a certified refurbished iPad mini includes the same 1-year warranty as a brand-new one, all manuals and accessories, plus a brand-new battery and outer shell. It *seems* like a good deal for our kids, but we have no experience with the refurbished products.

Thoughts? Advice?

I *think* my husband's macbook pro was refurbished. No problems whatsoever. He loves it - it was essentially brand new. I don't know that we could have told the difference. We did buy it through the Apple store, don't know if that makes a difference in price or reliability?

I have a friend who bought refurbished for her kids. They've held up well. No problems.

Both iPads and minis and pro were all Mac refurbished from their website. No issues except minor one in the first year with the drive on the pro. It was covered and we got a whole new one gratis
