I get an awesome discount through school... LR is like $80 I think? So 8-9 months of a monthly membership. The monthly would balance out to be more $$ over a couple years, but obviously it comes with the built in upgrades. I'm having a hard time deciding, but I'm leaning toward the full software since I won't get the student discount much longer.

Ah, yeah if you just want LR I'd buy the full version outright. If you want PS too the monthly subscription may be a better choice. Actually I don't even know that they sell PS outright anymore. But the $9/mo includes LR and PS. I don't use the monthly service -- I happened to own the most recent versions of LR and PS when they announced they were switching so I didn't see the point in using the subscription service since mine are pretty well up to date already.

I hate gift-giving occasions. I can never think of anything to ask for (I don't *need* anything!) and then I'm often disappointed by gifts that are too practical. I get a lot of cookbooks and pants. Combined with the stress of trying to come up with thoughtful gifts myself when I'm a horrid gift-giver, and I just feel like holding my breath and closing my eyes and waiting for it all to be over.

This time is different though. DH bought me the Fiestaware I've been dreaming of for years! I'm so excited for pretty dishes (which will replace our chipped bottom-of-the-line IKEA white ones) that I don't mind waiting until Christmas to receive them, or knowing they're coming ahead of time. And then, DH asked for a bike helmet for his birthday earlier this month and I got him something else from his wish list, but afterward I found an equivalent helmet for over $50 cheaper and in a color he liked better so that is now on its way. Finally, a Christmas that won't suck! I've actually even got a couple other ideas for other thoughtful gifts...we hit a big financial milestone recently and it is SO freeing not to worry about a few little splurges. Huge weight off.

A Tula!!! I've mentioned wanting one at least a dozen times and even shown DH pics of patterns I like, but I doubt he will actually connect the dots to get me one. If he doesn't I will be buying it for myself after.

Oh, you summed me up perfectly! I'm terrible at gift giving and receiving! I love it when I can think of the "perfect" gift for somebody, but mostly I feel like I'm letting everyone down for Christmas and birthdays.

SJ, that's amazing. Clearly your DH is a cruel, cruel man to deprive you of this awesomeness.

OMG the patterned eggs are incredible!! I can't believe he won't let you have it. (I guess I can see how the kids might harm themselves on the wood...) I'd climb in with a book and never be seen again.

I don't have a list. All the stuff I want can't be purchased. (I'm not talking world peace, either. Selfish stuff) I should probably stop buying what I want and start making a list so DH can actually get me something. The only things I ever get him are fahncy handmade french chocolates (eyeroll) and some books he doesn't have time to read. :/ The man has few desires.

He's relented, but apparently I have to wait until attendinghood. I'd totally live in there with a book, never to be seen again. *sigh*
