Ok...so I get the mail and there is an envelope from the Missouri Taxation Dept. Some bright IRS agent looked at our taxes and then proceeded to switch a couple lines....brief overview- if you work in Kansas City there is a "city tax", we live in Kansas so that just complicates the whole tax process-more papers, sending information to both states- anyway, so this year that tax amount was $389(city tax), the state witholding was more than $1300, leaving us with a tax bill of $68- I can handle that!
I read this letter and they switched our state amount with the city tax amount- turning a $68 bill into a $888 bill!!!!!!!!!!! What the hell??!!??

This is all on the heels of us getting a letter two months ago asking us to file our 2000 taxes or lose DW license within 30 days....Hello, smart people of Missouri IRS???!! We didn't even live here until middle of 2001, I am sorry that your state needs more money, but stop looking for it in our pockets damn it!!

Thanks, I feel better....oh yeah, no offense to anyone here that is IRS employed....I think.

That is unbelievable! What a pain in the ass. Hopefully, since it is state rather than federal it will be a little easier to fix. Here's to getting it fixed and getting the amount due to you.

Matt, that really sucks! We had a snafu last year with the Michigan tax people where they just arbitrarily withheld $692 of our state tax refund, saying that they had "recalculated" our property taxes which changed our return. Um ... what??! I sent them a nasty letter asking them for proof of their "recalculation" in the tax laws and 6 months later we got a check (plus interest!) in the mail. Hopefully they'll work it out for you, it's such a pain to have to deal with that stuff!
