  • Holiday Parties

Hubby has been invited to two departmental holiday parties (his program is joint with one of the universities and another big academic hospital here, and each is having a party). The parties are at attending physicians' homes and start at 5:30 and 6:30. The invitation is to hubby "and a guest." I told him he needs to ask if these are kid-friendly parties, or if we have to find a babysitter if we want to go. I know some of the other attendings have kids, and one other resident has an infant. He just assumes they're kid-friendly because everybody was invited. It's a valid question though, right? We haven't been to them before - either we didn't get invited last year, hubby didn't tell me, or we just didn't go. I'm overwhelmed at the idea of holiday parties already though!

I would get a sitter. At least for this year.

Agreed. I've never gone to ANY departmental functions because I'm never free. It would be nice to be able to meet these attendings he's been talking about.

Get a sitter and enjoy some adult time together! Usually family function invite the "XYZ family" or say kids welcomed

That's what I thought too. One of the hosts is a single guy, and I can't imagine he expects kids. The other is a pedi uro, so hubby is sure that he's OK with, but I'm pretty sure that's a bad assumption. So, now we just have to decide if we want to go, and which ones. It's two different groups of people, with only the residents overlapping. One of them is next weekend, and he's on call. The other is the following weekend, when he's actually off, but earlier that day my mom and I are taking E to the Nutcracker (may or may not be a terrible idea - we'll see!).
