A student e-mailed me and said they dropped my class online today. First of all, who drops a class during finals week? We don't have a final in my class, just a final project, and I assume they didn't want to actually do that, because they had an A in the course otherwise. Second, you can't actually drop a class online at this point, you have to fill out a paper form, get my signature, get your advisor's signature, and get it approved by the dean's office. And if that all happens, then you get an automatic failing grade. We've lost a lot of students this semester due to suicide, so now I have to seriously look into what's going on, just in case.Allison - professor; wife to a urology attending; mom to baby girl E (11/13), baby boy C (2/16), and a spoiled cat; knitter and hoarder of yarn; photographer

Yeah. That's crazy behavior. I'd certainly dig a little deeper. Everyone knows you fail - or at least get a W (I think. Not something I've tried) - if you drop past the add/drop period. There is almost no reason to do that during finals week. And honestly I can't imagine the school would give them anything beyond an F at this point. Hopefully blackboard is back online fast and you can talk some sense into them!

The final project is worth 40% of the grade, so they won't pass without it. It's not a ton of work (5 page paper is 30% of their grade, 10-15 minute narrated ppt presentation is 10%), but it is something they actually need to do. They already did the midterm, which was the 1 page proposal for the project.Allison - professor; wife to a urology attending; mom to baby girl E (11/13), baby boy C (2/16), and a spoiled cat; knitter and hoarder of yarn; photographer

Today I suppose I should be thankful he at least dumped the ice out first(?). But it's further away from the dishwasher than usual so I think that puts us back at square one.Wife of a surgical fellow; Mom to a busy toddler girl and 5 furballs (2 cats, 3 dogs)

Went to the doc today for a follow up and the good news was my BP was perfect (I always get nervous about my BP because it fluctuates and is sometimes a little high, especially when I get to the doctor's office - I don't want BP issues just yet!). But, it turns out my doc never received a radiology report from when I had an u/s on my thyroid in February. I am equally at fault...I never called to follow up as I assumed the imaging place would get the scan and report to the doc without issue...and then I never heard from my PCP so I assumed "oh, all is well" - I know, I know, I should never assume and should have followed up. So I've spent this entire year thinking "well, I guess I have no thyroid issues, that's awesome! They would have called otherwise" and didn't consider they didn't get the report. They are trying to track it down now and I'm supposed to get a phone call today. So, now I'm sort of nervous because, yeah, can no longer assume nothing is wrong so I'm hoping the report doesn't show anything problematic.Wife, support system, and partner-in-crime to PGY-3 (IM) and spoiler of our 11 y/o yellow lab

Oh no. Fingers crossed that it was nothing, and that's why they didn't contact you or notify your PCP!
My BP is the same. I always assumed that it was fine, but nothing spectacular. Turns out if my sister takes it at home or DH is with me at the doctor, it's like absolutely amazing. Like even when they took it right before my surgery. I guess I must just sort of panic at the doctor. Who knew?
My rant: UGH the weather is SO YUCKY. I was out and about this morning, but now I can't even bring myself to make a trip to costco because it's just so dreary and blah out. I jut told DH we should ski early and do a warm vacation in March.... I won't last that long!!!!

Oh no T&S! I can't say I'm sad you don't have to travel this week (I know the cleanup is probably worse than just going but I always feel for you with how much you travel) but that sucks . Hope it clears up quickly.Wife of a surgical fellow; Mom to a busy toddler girl and 5 furballs (2 cats, 3 dogs)
